Civil Marriage Collaborative

The Civil Marriage Collaborative brings leading funders of gay and lesbian equality together to ensure that their grantmaking is contributing as effectively as possible to the long-term vision of achieving equal marriage rights from coast to coast. The Haas, Jr. Fund played a critical role in founding the Collaborative and continues to help lead this work.

Members of the Collaborative are united around a shared understanding that winning equal marriage rights nationally depends on what happens on a state-by-state basis. As a result, the collaborative is supporting organizations in selected states as they engage in research, public education, organizing and communications activities aimed at building support for statewide action. Among the states where the collaborative’s funding has been essential to the success of recent marriage equality campaigns are Vermont, New Hampshire, and Iowa.

“Winning marriage equality in more states and across the country will not be easy, but we must succeed,” said Ira S. Hirschfield, President of the Haas, Jr. Fund. “By working together through the Civil Marriage Collaborative, the Haas, Jr. Fund and our partners are ensuring that the movement has the resources it needs to push more states across the finish line and keep the momentum building for national action.”
